We wanted to organize with CWA because, as a union in an industry that didn’t have a lot of union activity, we wanted a union that would understand our needs. Thanks to CWA’s history with organizing video game companies, who we share a lot of issues with like crunch, we felt they would be most likely to “speak our language.”
Forming a union with my coworkers has brought us all closer together. We’ve learned to support each other and ensure we’re all taken care of at work and outside of it. We were lucky to have management that elected to voluntarily recognize us without an election. Leadership’s choice to take the high road and recognize us has lead to so much more cooperation among our union members, and between us and management at the bargaining table. It doesn’t have to be an adversarial relationship!
